Laxatives for weight loss

Laxatives for weight loss have been used by people of all ages. While it may initially be
something that you consider, you have to know the long term repercussions of it aren’t
worth it. This is a very risky type of method to use for weight loss and one that you don’t
really want to rely on.

Laxatives are easy to get your hands on and you can purchase them legally. Yet that still
doesn’t make them a good solution for losing weight and keeping it off. Parents need to
make sure they keep such products out of the hands of children. In many schools, issues
with weight and the peer pressure of being slim can start in grade school. It isn’t far
fetched to think that kids that age can use laxatives to aid them with getting the pounds
off.

The reason why it seems that you lose weight so rapidly with laxative use is due to the
water weight that comes off. Once you stop using the laxatives though, you will have that
weight right back. Therefore, this isn’t a long term solution that you can really benefit
from. The risk of dehydration is high too due to the amount of water that is being pushed
out of the body.

Your body needs various vitamins and nutrients to be healthy and for energy. When you
are pushing everything back out of the body due to laxative use, this can mean you aren’t
going to feel your best. You may feel light headed and dizzy and your mood can change
to one that is very irritable. You may find that you don’t have any energy to do daily
tasks either.

These symptoms are messages from the brain and the body, telling you that they aren’t
getting what they need. The use of laxatives to lose weight isn’t a green light to have
unhealthy eating habits. If you are eating too much and you aren’t eating foods that are
good for you that needs to change. You can’t justify such actions and then cleanse your
body with laxatives as a solution.

If you use them for a long period of time, you will start to notice that you lose lean
muscle mass. If you are losing weight, you will end up with loose skin on your body
instead of toned up areas. This can make a person just as self conscious as being
overweight. The natural process of bowel movements can be affected too when you use
laxatives often.

This will cause you to have very sudden urges to use the bathroom. This is often going
to be accompanied by severe abdominal pain. Not knowing when these urges will occur
can severely limit the activities you are able to take part in. You will feel like you always
have to be near a bathroom you can get to quickly. There are also studies that connect the
over use of laxatives to IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This means you could have flare
ups for the rest of your life with your bowels.

Over time, your body can start to build up a tolerance to those laxatives you are using

too. This is its way of trying to hold on to the nutrients from what you eat. As a result,
you will need to start taking more and more laxatives over time to get the same results.
With the increased amount of them in the body, you could start to experience some
additional side effects.

The lining of the stomach can become very sensitive to those laxatives. As a result,
digestion can become more difficult. Your stomach may start to create more acid which
can result in chronic heartburn. The liver can become inflamed too due to the excessive
use of laxatives. When your liver isn’t working properly, a variety of toxins that it should
flush out of the body can remain inside. Essentially, your body will start to poison itself
from the inside.

The fact that you aren’t going to be able to safely take off weight this way or keep it off
is important to understand. If you don’t change your eating habits and move more to
burn calories then that weight will come back on when you finally do end the cycle of
laxatives. However, the damage that has been done to your body may be permanent.

There are too many negative things that can occur with your body if you use laxatives
to help you lose weight. There are better alternatives such as talking with your doctor
to develop a plan of action. Eating right and getting daily exercise will help you to lose
weight so that you can feel better and be healthier. Laxatives for weight loss isn’t the
answer though so you need to be very careful about doing so.
